The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) has announced the postponement of NHEA 2020 due to the continuous challenges of the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe. Dr. Wale Alabi, NHEA Project Director, made the announcement in a mail written to the Award stakeholders recently.
“As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread and sustains its onslaught globally with no sign of abatement, it has become imperative that we formally inform you of the indefinite postponement of NHEA 2020 scheduled to hold on June 26, 2020 by 5pm at The Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.” wrote Alabi.
The Award has been postponed to a date that will be determined and communicated later by the LOC as they continue to monitor the situation. He said the LOC believes the health and safety of everyone, especially healthcare workers in the frontlines and other stakeholders involve in the management of the challenges brought about by COVID-19 deserve to be given top priority. This also means that the nomination process has been suspended.
Furthermore, Alabi expressed appreciation to various stakeholders of the Award and promised that a new date will be announced after a careful monitoring of the situation.
“We were quite elated by the positive responses we received from the participants who have expressed their interest in participating at the Award this year. However, with the continuous loss of human lives, economic and social disruptions it has become apparent that a more careful observation of how things unfolds before a new date can be announced to commence the award process and date for the Award itself.”
The LOC thoughts and prayers are with those affected by COVID-19. They are optimistic that the uncertainties surrounding this whole situation will clear soon as the world join efforts to fight and overcome this pandemic.
