COVID-19: Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards 2020 Postponed

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) has announced the postponement of NHEA 2020 due to the continuous challenges of the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe. Dr. Wale Alabi, NHEA Project Director, made the announcement in a mail written to the Award stakeholders recently.

“As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread and sustains its onslaught globally with no sign of abatement, it has become imperative that we formally inform you of the indefinite postponement of NHEA 2020 scheduled to hold on June 26, 2020 by 5pm at The Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.” wrote Alabi.

The Award has been postponed to a date that will be determined and communicated later by the LOC as they continue to monitor the situation.

Akinkugbe Canvasses For 0.2% Pre-Tax Profit For Health Fund

Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe has called on the federal government to set up a Nigeria Health Fund which the private sector will be compelled to pay 0.2% of their pre-tax profit into. He made the call after he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 6th Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA 2019) in Lagos. The award was presented by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
According to a statement weekend signed by Moses Braimah, Director, Marketing, Communication, & Strategy
Dr. Stella Okoli, Group Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceutical and Professor Eyitayo Lambo, former Minister of Health were also given the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Akinkugbe who went nostalgic, gave an account of how similar fund(s) was set up in the past, both in local and foreign currencies, but was frittered away by a past military regime.
