Individuals and organisations who are leveraging information technology in creating new business models in the healthcare sector in Nigeria, where recently at the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) 2017 recognised for outstanding performances.

The Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA), an initiative of Global Health Project and Resources in collaboration with Anadach group, USA, is an annual event which celebrates distinguished personalities and organisations who have contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian health sector.

Dr. Anthony Omolola, chairman, Advisory Board for 2017, said that the award has gained confidence following increased recognitions and active participation of the industry stakeholders.

He said the Advisory Board has bechmarked the categories as similar prestigious awards across the globe, honouring individuals and organisations that have worked tirelessly to promote healthcare services in the country; investing their time and resources to serving humanity.

NHEA started in 2014 and has since become a high profile event in the healthcare industry, gaining wide acceptance from stakeholders in the healthcare community, public and private sector.

“Over the years, NHEA has engendered more awareness and focus on quality and standard of services provided by various stakeholders in the industry by inspiring them to adopt international best practices and aspire to be the benchmark for excellent healthcare delivery in Nigeria and Africa in general”, Dr. Omolola said.

On why NHEA was conceived, he said, “It has been shown that increased competition leads to higher productivity, improved quality and efficiency. This usually results in reduced costs and increased patient satisfaction. NHEA’s recognition aims to stimulate quality improvement and innovation in the Nigerian health sector leading to improved service delivery and management of key health issues.

“The event is a unique forum that brings together key stakeholders and drivers of national and international trends, policy and solutions in the healthcare industry. Over 500 healthcare dignitaries from private and public sectors attend the event annually”.

On her part, Vivian Alikali, executive secretary of the Organising Committee, said that NHEA will continue to promote the healthcare system in Nigeria, ensuring it reaches international standards in healthcare delivery for the wellbeing of her citizens.

“The Award also examines the rapid growth of Nigeria’s healthcare sector, the role of technology and the capacity of organisations and individuals to influence and set new performance standards in the country and beyond,” she said.
